In August 2023, JDC Democratic Party began an active Reproductive Justice program (RJ), chaired by Kathleen Huston. In response to surveys sent to members, the program has allied with the Jeff Davis County Mobile Comunidad program to do the following:

1.    Distribute stickers and flyers that provide information on how to access women’s reproductive health care services, some through websites, some through postal service, and some available soon in JDC and tri-county area (Jeff Davis, Brewster, and Presidio counties). We plan to place these stickers in public bathrooms and on counters in Fort Davis whenever possible. This distribution is fully within the law.

2.    Raffles will be performed frequently to raise funds for RJ. The raffle of a Front Street Bookstore gift card at our meeting on 9/13 brought in $25.

3.    In alliance with Mobile Comunidad, RJ will work to provide “Repro Kits” at JDC sites. The kits will have feminine reproductive care products and cards with information on obtaining emergency products from the Big Bend Reproductive Coalition. This is a fully legal activity.

4.    In alliance with Mobile Comunidad, our program will work to place small boxes with feminine hygiene products in schools and public bathrooms. Many women and girls have difficulty accessing these products in our county. We may want to label the boxes with “donation from Mobile Comunidad.”

5.    We will work to increase the pro-choice vote in the tri-county area, and the women’s vote throughout the country. Our plan is to develop a card with a pro-choice slogan and a QR code linked to a 3-minute video on “why vote and how to vote.” Research shows that the likelihood of voting increases when a topic of personal importance to the non-voter is emphasized and the non-voter is provided with a visual of “how to vote.” The card will be distributed throughout the tri-county area.
