Democratic Party of Jeff Davis County

2023 and 2024 Elections

2023: New legislation requires changes to the Texas Constitution. A November 7, 2023 election will decide whether the changes become law. Fourteen constitutional amendments will appear on the ballot.
Texas lawmakers passed legislation to raise the homestead exemption to $100,000 from the current $40,000. The plan should lower school property tax rates, by having the state pay part of what school districts now collect. Texas voters must decide whether to adopt the tax relief plan in the constitutional amendment election in November. Other important issues are also on the ballot.
The last day to register for the November 7th election is October 10th.
The deadline to apply for ballot-by-mail is October 27th.
Early voting begins October 23rd and ends November 3rd.

The League of Women Voters of Texas has completed a thorough nonpartisan analysis of the 14 constitutional amendments on the November 7 ballot, and their nonpartisan voter guides in English and Spanish can be accessed below. There is much to learn, pro and con, about these amendments.

2024: It is not too early to begin preparing for the 2024 Democratic Primary and General Elections. Community building begins now. Organizing precincts to register new voters, motivate voters, and increase voter turnout begins now.
Training volunteers begins now. Finding good Democratic Party candidates for local elections begins now. Recruiting election judges for primary and general elections begins now.

The County Executive Committee has responsibility for planning and coordinating the General Election campaigns of the Democratic Party’s nominees within the county. In the case of nominees running for office in districts which include areas outside of the county, the County Executive Committee works with the Senatorial District Committee. Their responsibility includes raising funds for local campaigns, supporting the statewide effort, and producing materials and coordinating local services for all Democratic campaigns.
Filing of precinct chair candidates for the Tuesday March 5, 2024 Primary Election begins in 2023 -- on Tuesday, September 12th. And we expect to have a full slate of candidates for all five precincts in Jeff Davis County.
